Problems with 4Shared
I've been hearing all over the net that people have been getting viruses from downloading things from 4shared. Since ALL of my freebies and tut supplies are hosted at my 4shared account, at this time, I would advise everyone to not download anything from my links untill I can figure out what to do about it. I do not want anyone to be getting any viruses or trojans from any of my links. I will let everyone know when I've figured out what I'm going to be doing.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Hi Shawna
I emailed 4Shared about this, because like you I have all my stuff there too, and this is the reply I got, thought you'd like to see it.

Hello, Files uploaded to our servers are checked with Kaspersky anti-virus software. You can see the status on the file download page. If the status is 'pending',you need to wait for a few hours until the file has been checked. However,we do not manage the contents and cannot be responsible for the files youdownload. I would recommend you to check rar and zip files with your own antivirus before opening. If you have any further questions, please let me know. I will be glad to help you.

    Hope this helps you

Shawna, I have heard that it's coming from the advertisers and NOT the files themselves. I read that at Digital Candy, and I believe they got their info from DST.

    Hi Bree,

I had heard that too, that it's from their ads, and i also heard that they've pulled all ads except their own too. Hopefully, they've got their act together and have it fixed now.

I think the people above might be right about the advertisers..sometimes when you try to get a download..the advertisers steals you away to their web site...

Most people use 4Shared or rapidshare..I really don't like rapidshare...they limit you to the downloads unless you have a paid account with them..

I would wait it out..I'm sure a lot of people are complaining to 4Shared and they will do something to fix the problem..that happen to another website I went to a few months ago..and the website made the advertisers to stop it..

    Give it time

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't heard anything about getting viruses from 4share. I've been dl freebies from there cause I thought that 4share scans them before you dl them. Not to mention I always scan them with Norton's before I unzip them just to be on the safe side. I hope you can figure something out for your links. I love doing your tuts. XoXo

Nancy I have Norton and there is no way that the page can be scanned before hand. I got the virus as soon as I went to the site and I have Norton,I had to clean all of my files on puter. So no way can be stopped with a virus scanner until the fact it has already begun attacking yours.

I don't think any of the reasons offered are the problem at 4shared. Yes, adverts can transmit viruses and YES "paid" antivirus, firewalls and the free Windows Defender can and do stop these.

Back to the 4shared specific problem. What I have seen written about are people who use the Search tool and indiscriminately download all kinds of "freebies" from people they don't know. They then DO NOT scan these immediately, but click to unzip in their excitement of getting something for free, or something they really shouldn't have.

Any warez - hacked and cracked programs; programs sent around with serials "for free"; applications promising to hack, crack and create serials, these are all the tools of the virus spammers.

Anything NOT coming from the company that made the software itself is SUSPECT and should not be downloaded. THIS IS THE MOST COMMON METHOD that most people get viruses, from downloading something they didn't know where it came from and there is no guarantee from an actual "company" not some netboi.

Geez folks really, is it worth losing everything you have to get a pirated program?

Don't blame 4shared, they can't police everything and if we force them too they will turn it into a for-pay system so they can afford to police it all.

Be responsible about your own stuff and tell the same to those who complain about getting a virus.

And don't slam me, I'm talking about 4shared only here, not every other site on the web - or your email boxes.

It was a couple of ads being displayed on the 4shared site that had a virus in it,but the problem was fixed a while ago, so it's all good.

I've been downloading supplies for your tuts, and haven't had any problems. I think sometimes people anti-viruses give out false virus/trojan reports.
